July 4, 2017: A great adventure starts. I am head of the graphic department print & digital at the German newspaper Handelsblatt and we publish the first 'Graphic of the Day' (in German: 'Grafik des Tages'). The original idea from Chief Editor Gabor Steingart finally realized.
It has been a lot of fun, especially from the moment where we had optimized all the processes. Every member of the team has at least a few dozens of these signed with their name. Here are a few samples of the round about 90 pieces I had the privilege to design.
The topics varied a lot through the round 250 poster-sized infographic dossiers the Handelsblatt published every year. The focus remained the same though: The geopolitical and/or economical implications of any given topic.
And so, within four days, you could read about the weight of small businesses in the German economy, the financial impact of natural disasters, the geopolitical meaning of Germany's bigger cities and then read about the industry behind a successful reality TV show.
The last 'Grafik des Tages' was printed on July 3rd, 2020, after the owner of the newspaper had decided to stop the project.
